I remember when I was scared

It was 6th grade. We had a Halloween costume party in Mrs. Campbell’s room. I had a costume, and for some reason, I chickened out from putting it on.
I don’t remember why. I was afraid, I thought I would look dumb.
I don’t know.
We moved in the middle of the school year, and I had to change schools.
It wasn’t the best thing.
I vowed that if I had a child, I would never make them change schools, especially in mid year.
I was a creature of habit, even then, and didn’t weather change well.
I was deep inside my own head, and I couldn’t figure out how to break out.
But I knew I had to.
7th grade was coming like a jail on wheels.
